Eric Berne's Carmel, California Home
The Berne home was originally built for Davenport Bromfield in 1888 to live in while he mapped out the streets of Carmel. As the oldest house in Carmel it is on both the State and City Registries of Historic Homes. Eric bought the house in 1948 and it remains in the family to this day and retains all the warmth and charm of a true "Carmel Cottage". Eric's writing studio, built among the gardens, is very much as he left it and contains many of his personal items, books, photo albums and hand written notes as well as unpublished papers and manuscripts. Janice (Eric's step-daughter) and her husband, Bob, who live in the house offer TA members and friends Bed and Breakfast accommodations on a nightly basis. It's a great opportunity to experience personal stories and memories of Eric's life and times. They will take you on a tour of this enchanting coastal area called the Monterey Peninsula, California's "crown jewel", and acquaint you with the places that gave meaning to Eric's life.
